We are excited to announce our MOM (Motivating Mom of the Month) for August! Each month we take a moment to recognize one of our local FIT4MOM® Palos Verdes & San Pedro mamas for her hard work and dedication to lead a healthy lifestyle.

Meet Maria Martinez. Maria is our Motivating Mom of the Month for August! Maria is an inspiration for our entire village. Maria is mama to Emily, Elizabeth, and Erin and is a wonderful part of our village!

"Maria brings a very calming spirt to class. She is extremely committed and works very hard every time. Although she may be quiet at times, she is mighty with her determination to get the best workout in possible. As her Body Back Instructor, I enjoy seeing her progress and getting better and stronger with each class." - Instructor Jamie

"I remember when Maria first started Body Back® during our March transformation session. She was extremely dedicated to coming to class each week, eating healthy foods, and living a healthy lifestyle. She rocked her first Body Back transformation session! Since then she has continued with our Body Back summer classes and truly is an inspiration to those around her."- Instructor Jen

We asked Maria a few questions, and here is what she had to say:

Who are the members of your family?

Emily (14yrs), Elizabeth (12 yrs), Erin (9 yrs)

When did you come to your first FIT4MOM® Palos Verdes & San Pedro workout and who or what got you there?

I came to my first FIT4MOM® workout in March 2018. I saw ad online so I clicked on it because it was interesting to me and here I am.

What is your FIT4MOM® why - what keeps you coming to workout, keeps you involved?

I know it’s important to be healthy especially as we approach those years where weight can’t come offf as easily so keeping up with exercise as part of our everyday routine is important.

What is one of your favorite exercises you have done with FIT4MOM®?

I have a love/hate relationship with any exercises that are for my core muscles. I hate them but I like how I feel after doing them... lol

  • Favorite workout song? 80’s
  • Best snack before a workout? Apple or carrots
  • Most delicious dessert you have ever had? Chocolate ice cream

Any advice for other moms out there?

Never give up because the kids are looking up to us!

Meet Mallory Launer. Mallory is our Motivating Mom of the Month for July! Mallory is an inspiration for our entire village. Mallory is mama to Finley and is a wonderful part of our village!

"Mallory ALWAYS goes the extra mile in everything at Stroller Strides. She is ready for anything that is thrown her way and her love for her daughter Finley is so apparent from the radiant smile that that child gives every day. LOVE having Mallory in the class. She's such a motivation of what a mama is capable of when she pushes herself that extra bit." - Instructor Bethany

We asked Mallory a few questions, and here is what she had to say:

Who are the members of your family?

Myself, my husband Brent, Finley and our dog Sierra.

When did you come to your first FIT4MOM Palos Verdes & San Pedro workout and who or what got you there?

My first class was about a month ago and I kept seeing other moms on Facebook posting about FIT4MOM both locally and other areas and it made me curious about the group so I did some research thought it was definitely was my thing and here I am!

What is your FIT4MOM why - what keeps you coming to workout, keeps you involved?

My why is it’s my me time but also with Finley. It’s so important to have some time to yourself as a momma and FIT4MOM allows me time to myself while working out, time with other moms, but also time with Finley best of all worlds!

What is one of your favorite exercises you have done with FIT4MOM?

Favorite exercise, there are a lot of good ones, liked the one from today with the LEGO challenge with Bethany. It is a lot of reps per exercise but it’s also a competition so it makes it even funner! ( funner probably isn’t a word, sorry)

  • Favorite workout song? M-O-M-M-Y (to the tune of B-I-N-G-O)
  • Best snack before a workout? Anything peanut butter but my favorite is a brown rice, rice cake with peanut butter.
  • Most delicious dessert you have ever had? They don’t make it anymore but it was the lava flow cake from PF Chang’s
  • I feel like ____________ after a FIT4MOM® workout. I feel ready to face the day after FIT4MOM workout!
  • Before I had kids, I said I would never _________________ but now I ________________________. Before I had kids I said I would never be excited to go to bed before 8pm but now I am (although it never really happens :( )

Any advice for other moms out there?

Advice... not sure if I have any advice per say I’m still trying to figure it out each day myself but I do really like the saying referring to kids “The days are long and the years are short.”

Meet Maureen Dillon. Maureen is our Motivating Mom of the Month for June! Maureen is an inspiration for our entire village. Maureen is mama to her 4 month little girl and is a wonderful part of our village!

"Maureen always seems to have a smile and a kind word to say to everyone she talks to and the kids absolutely adore her. She comes to every class ready to workout and pushes herself each time. Love seeing her being one of the first runners of the day, it's such a motivating sight." - Instructor Bethany

"Maureen has been a dedicated member of our village since the day she started! She began taking classes just a couple months ago when her little girl was 6 weeks old and hardly ever misses a day. She's always happy when she comes to class and is social with everyone 😊" - Instructor Domini

We asked Maureen a few questions, and here is what she had to say:

Who are the members of your family?

My husband and I are the proud parents of a 4 month old girl and 13 year old cattle dog.

When did you come to your first FIT4MOM® Palos Verdes & San Pedro workout and who or what got you there?

I attended the Spring Festival in March when my daughter was 7 weeks old because I wanted to start working out with other moms who would help provide encouragement and reassurance. I could only partially do many of the exercises, but the instructor (Jen) was really helpful in providing lots of options so I could work out at my own level and pace.

What is your FIT4MOM® why - what keeps you coming to workout, keeps you involved?

I keep coming because FIT4MOM® helps me exercise my body and mind. It can be hard to make time to care for yourself, especially as a new mom. But because my daughter can come with me, FIT4MOM® makes it easy. I enjoy socializing with the other moms and learning from them.

What is one of your favorite exercises you have done with FIT4MOM®?

My favorite exercise is follow the leader.

Lightning Round:

  • Favorite workout song? The wheels on the bus...because you never know what the kids are going to say is on the bus. Sometimes there are chickens and pink frogs on the bus.
  • Best snack before a workout? Oatmeal with lots of toppings
  • Most delicious dessert you have ever had? Too many to count, but I'm sure it involved chocolate.
  • I feel like ____________ after a FIT4MOM® workout. Stronger

Any advice for other moms out there?

It can be stressful to start something new, especially after having a baby when you feel overwhelmed. You may wonder if you can actually do it, or worry your baby might cry too much. But this group of women is incredibly supportive and understanding, so I hope you will come check it out if you're interested. Whether your child is a few weeks or a few years old. the instructors are great helping keep the kids calm and happy while mamas get exercise and support each other.

Hi Mamas! We know summer can be challenging to get to class with the kids home and all those summer camp drop offs so to keep you motivated, we're kicking off our Summer Lovin' BINGO challenge this week! From June 15- July 15, whoever gets a "BINGO" wins a prize! Challenges include attending a MNO (easy!), posting a pic on Facebook and bringing another mama to class. Come into class to get your card before the 15th or click the link below to print your card!

Mom of the Month - May

We asked Carina a few questions, and here is what she had to say:

Who are the members of your family?

Jed, Layla (5), and Madilynn (1 1/2)

When did you come to your first FIT4MOM® Palos Verdes & San Pedro workout and who or what got you there?

I started my first class in January 2018. I started because I wanted to gain muscle and build up my stamina back to where it used to be before kids. I saw advertisements for FIT4MOM® on Instagram and Facebook and I took it as a sign to stop making excuses and just commit to getting back to where I want to be physically.

What is your FIT4MOM® why - what keeps you coming to workout, keeps you involved?

My why is to make sure that with everything I have on my plate, to make sure I always make time for myself, to workout through the stress of everyday life, and to be the best mom I can be when I allow myself to do something for myself.

What is one of your favorite exercises you have done with FIT4MOM®?

I really love doing squats, all forms of them.

  • Favorite workout song? 80's music usually
  • Best snack before a workout? Granola bar or banana
  • Most delicious dessert you have ever had? Milano Cookies
  • I feel like ____________ after a FIT4MOM® workout. Recharged
  • Before I had kids, I said I would never _________________ but now I ________________________. Before I had kids, I said I would never "let my kids sleep in bed with me" but now "my youngest sleeps with me every night."

Any advice for other moms out there?

My advice is that no matter where you start to not be discouraged because you may not be as physically fit as you once were, and to keep going even when you feel like working out is the last thing you want to do.

April MOM - Nia

Meet Nia Young. Nia is our Motivating Mom of the Month for April! Nia is an inspiration for our entire village. Nia is mama to Charlotte and is a wonderful part of our village!

We asked Nia a few questions, and here is what she had to say:

Who are the members of your family?

When did you come to your first FIT4MOM Palos Verdes & San Pedro workout and who or what got you there?

We just moved to this area last June and I needed to hang out with other moms. I googled Mom groups and came across the Fit4Mom Long Beach at first which led me to the San Pedro/Palos Verdes group. I was excited since it’s close to the house.

What is your FIT4MOM why - what keeps you coming to workout, keeps you involved?

I joined because I needed to be around people who are going through the same thing. Most of my friends don’t have kids so it was hard to share or vent to them and I also needed new Mom friends who live in the area.

What is one of your favorite exercises you have done with FIT4MOM?

I love any upper body exercise because i need the strength to carry flailing toddler around.

Any advice for other moms out there?

Find your tribe. Find your support. I guarantee that the mom next to you is going through the same thing. Being a mom can be isolated but it doesn’t have to be when you’re surrounded by a village of moms.
